A MESSAGE TO AMERICA

“Sad Assad…we are coming after you,” President Obama seems to be saying.

Come again…Whata you talk, Barack?

 

IF you must strike,

Let it not be out of fear of being thought weak,

Let it not be out of pride and arrogance;

Let it not be for ego boosting’s sake;

Let it not be out of showmanship;

Let it not be for superiority’s sake;

 

IF you must strike,

Let it not be because might is right;

Or because right is might;

Let it not be out of gangsterism

Or jingoism or because you are belligerent America;

Let it not be because your restless hands

Are always on the trigger;

Let it not be because you want to show off

As erstwhile superpower;

And let it not be because you want to reclaim your

Lost glory as a superpower;

Or for warmongering’s sake!

 

IF you must strike,

Let it not be for the annexation of Syria;

To add to the number of your strategic allies;

Let it not be because you want to be

The arch tyrant of the world;

Let it not be because you want to

Behave like a capricious god or play

God;

Or like Mutallab the zealot or a monkey

With grenades hidden in its scrotums!

 

IF you must strike,

Let it not be because of yourself;

Let it not be because of your wives,

Children and families,

Or for the sake of America,

Or because you are America!

And let it not be for self-delusion’s sake

Or self-glorification;

 

IF you must strike,

Let it not be for greed’s sake,

Or for your wealth’s sake,

Or to save face for careless talk

Uttered!

 

BUT if you must strike,

Let it be for conscience’s sake;

Let it be for the sake of universal

Altruism and brotherhood;

Strike out of conviction;

Strike because it is right to so do;

And let it be because right is humility,

 

As the eagle tries to recruit

The hawks and the wild donkeys

For the great strike, whilst the dragons

And the vultures look the other way,

Let those who beat the drums of war

Count the cost!
